Your automobile is designed to have the engine oil changed every 3,000-7,500 miles. If you’re like me, you know an oil change is pending, but you can always postpone it based on the odds that nothing bad has happened in the past, so it probably won’t happen in the next 2000-3000 miles. Maybe you wait for a more convenient time, or when you start to panic about an upcoming vacation or long-range trip. Oil changes are inexpensive, especially when you compare it to the cost of the potential alternative….an engine replacement! If the problem implodes to that level, you’re looking at a cost of $3,000-$5000 or more, and all of it could have been avoided with the proper on-going maintenance with something as simple as an oil change. 

Since it’s so “simple,” many DIY auto enthusiasts change their own oil. You can buy the oil for a reasonable fee, but the tasks of getting under the car, removing the right plug, draining the old oil, and then figuring out what to do with it (since it must be disposed of properly), are all arduous efforts.
